PLOWS services assist older adults who need help with home and personal care, legal
problems, financial and health matters, and family or personal problems. Persons in the
service area can take advantage of a full array of services including:
Home Care
Chore/Housekeeping Service - provides light housework, laundry and shopping assistance.
Homemaker Program - assists with personal care, meal preparation and household tasks.
Respite Service - trained in-home worker provides an interval of rest and relief to the
primary care giver of an ailing senior.
Escort Service - provides transportation to essential appointments for the elderly.
Home Delivered Meals Program - provides one or two meals per day, Monday through Friday,
for a portion of PLOWS service area, for persons who are unable to prepare their own meals
due to illness or disability.
Counseling
Case Coordination Unit - aids persons who receive state-supported in-home service.
Professional Caseworkers - help persons who are experiencing financial, family and health
problems.
Elder Abuse - investigates abuse, neglect and exploitation reports and provides follow-up
casework support.
Shared Housing Program - links persons to share living arrangements as well as household
expenses and duties.
Information and Assistance - helps people to locate the proper services to fit their
needs.
Income Tax Assistance - preparation of simple income tax forms is offered by PLOWS
volunteers trained by the Internal Revenue Service.
Legal Services and Advice - provided in cooperation with the Legal Assistance Foundation.
Wills - consultation and drafting in cooperation with the Chicago Bar Association.
Energy Assistance - heating bill and weatherization assistance provided through CEDA.
RTA - passes issued by PLOWS office entitles persons over 65 to half fare.
Choices For Care - a program that helps persons contemplating Nursing Home placement
discover their options for long and short term care.
Community Care Program - helps older people live independently by offering a State funded
in-home service program.
EDUCIZE - education combined with low impact aerobic exercise designed to help seniors
increase/maintain their mobility.
Advocacy - helps persons access benefits and services they are entitled to.
