Elder Abuse Reporting Law Changes
Changes in Illinois law taking place in January require professionals to report when
older persons are suspected of being abused, neglected, or financially exploited but are
unable, due to dysfunction, to report for themselves.
The new law also codifies that the Elder Abuse and Neglect Program must report suspected
criminal activity to law enforcement in accordance with Illinois Department on Aging
Policies. It also extends immunity protections to include persons providing, in good
faith, information or records related to a report, assessment, or services or
participating in the investigation of the report. The revised language makes "good
faith" presumed.
