Many individuals are not receiving all the benefits and services they are entitled to
receive. Common barriers include complicated application forms and processes, lack of
knowledge about a program or benefit, and lack of transportation.
Trained staff and volunteers assist persons with applications to programs, obtaining
necessary documents, clarifying benefits, helping with appeals and providing referrals and
information when appropriate.
Some programs that the staff and volunteers can assist with are:
The Circuit Breaker Program, which provides a tax relief in the form of a one time grant,
may be available.
Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Program (QMB), will pay the Medicare premiums, deductibles
and coinsurance of qualified Medicare enrollees.
The Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLIB) pays the Medicare Part B for
individuals who meet all of the requirements of QMB.
Food Stamp Program is a program where coupons available to low-income individuals and
households are used instead of cash.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides monthly checks to seniors age 65 and
older, blind or disabled who have limited income and assets.
Property Tax Deferral Program allows qualified seniors to defer part or all of the
property taxes on their residence.
